What you will get from taking this course:

  • The chance to create an experimental body of work based around a theme of your choosing
  • Scope to experiment with new mediums and ways of working in a supportive environment
  • The opportunity to share your work with others and get tailored feedback and advice on your drawings
  • Elephant Academy Takeaway Technique: Learn new skills and creative applications that can help you to develop your art further

Sketchbooks are an integral part of the creative experience, but nothing is more daunting than opening a new sketchbook and seeing a blank page staring back at you. This four-week course, will teach you how to develop a creative approach to sketchbooks, as well as how to explore a theme visually. It will also introduce different ways of drawing and mark making, as well as practical solutions for getting past a creative block. Illustrator Megan Reddi will also discuss the benefits of keeping a sketchbook and explain how sketchbooks can be used to further develop your creative practice.

Students will pick a theme and will use a range of creative techniques and prompts to produce a finished sketchbook based upon their chosen theme. Throughout the sessions, you will encounter everything from photomontage and collage to painting in sketchbooks, exploring how to use wet media directly on the page. You will also experiment with introducing found and everyday materials.

Megan Reddi is a British illustrator whose work blends digital illustration and traditional printmaking techniques to create colourful, conceptual images. Her illustrations have been used for everything from publishing and editorial to packaging and fabric design, for clients including LUSH, BBC History, Quadrille Publishing and The Big Issue.
