What you will get from taking this workshop:

  • An understanding of how to draw flowers with oil pastels
  • The chance to develop your oil pastel skills more broadly
  • A brief art history lesson on the use of oil pastels to depict flowers
  • An introduction to intuitive drawing techniques, learning how to be in the now while you are making work

In this workshop, Ragnhild Nes will introduce you to the blossoming world of flowers. As an artist she regularly draws inspiration from the colourful wildflowers of her native Norway. During this class you can draw inside or outside, from cut flowers or those growing in your surroundings.

After this online workshop you will never look at flowers the same way again. You will learn to see a new depth in the variety of colours that each bloom has and get to explore your own drawing skills in the process.

Nes both draws and paints, creating impressionistic studies of nature and light. The language of colour is essential to Nes’ work and she creates her compositions intuitively. She experiments with different medias and shapes, sometimes turning her paintings into sculptural objects. She counts historical painters such as Georgia O’Keeffe, Edvard Munch and Etel Adnan among her inspirations.

Do I need to have any experience to take part in an Elephant Academy class? Absolutely not! We warmly welcome everyone and have classes and activities for all levels, including those who have never picked up a paintbrush or pencil before. All classes are friendly, supportive and fun!

How do I join the online class once I have purchased? You will be sent a Zoom link via email the week before your class. The email will have full instructions on how to join and tips on how to set up your workspace.

I don’t live in the UK – can I still join one of the classes? Absolutely! We welcome students from all over the world and many of our classes are held at times to suit students in Europe and North America.

Is there a recording I can watch after the class? Yes, we can supply recordings to allow you to develop your skills and revisit the classes.
